Strawberry, Minneola, Green melon, Hints of lavender
To celebrate our 1st anniversary we are, for a limited time, offering this very special Costa Rica Gesha from Don Alexis Coffee. Thanks to our friends at Grounds Coffees, we managed to get our hands on two of the just three available bags of this wonderful coffee. The coffee boasts an incredible variety of flavours: a rich and vibrant acidity, a syrupy, fruity sweetness, and delicate floral and spice notes.
Don Alexis’ Gesha grows among the trees in the shade, where the Gesha grows best. The Gesha plant comes from Ethiopia and was spotted there around 15 years ago by a Costa Rican research team looking for coffee plants with better climate resistance. From there, it was taken to Costa Rica, where it was discovered by Panama coffee farmers, who then put the plant on the map worldwide. Don Alexis’ plants are 7 years old and this is the first harvest sold. It has been dried as a natural but placed deliberately in thick layers in a greenhouse. This has, in our opinion, acted as a mild form of controlled fermentation, giving it a somewhat funky flavour. This is especially so when set as espresso, but also as filter when using conical drippers which bring out more body such as Cafec’s Deep 27. Using flat-bottomed drippers like our Nou& gives a more balanced cup, bringing out more of the floral notes.
